  • Why Choose Pathways to Hope?
    Pathways to Hope provides access to one-on-one Wellbeing Coaching. Working with your Wellbeing Coach means that you work on wellbeing goals that matter to you and together you create your tailored pathway ahead. You will also have access to the range of other support services A Girl Called Hope offers. These are: Online Wellbeing Skills Toolkit Courses In Person Wellbeing Skills Short Courses Personal Development Courses Counselling Our coaching is guided by a coaching practice framework.
  • What can A Girl Called Hope provide?
    With all our mahi, we use evidence-based practice. Those on the Pathways to Hope programme, will work with their Wellbeing Coach about accessing any of our support services. These are made up of Wellbeing Coaching, Counselling, Wellbeing Skills Toolkit courses (online), Wellbeing Skills Short courses (in-person), and Personal Development courses (both online and in-person). Our Wellbeing Skills and Personal Development courses can be also accessed by those not engaged with the Pathways to Hope Programme.
  • How does A Girl Called Hope Incorporate the Treaty of Waitangi?
    A Girl Called Hope recognises the principle of partnership within Te Tiriti O Waitangi. Our commitment to partnership ensures that in all our programmes and courses there is appropriate cultural assessment and response, Pathways to Hope is based on the Te Whare Tapa Wha model of health (developed by leading Maori health advocate Sir Mason Durie in 1984) which looks at the wellbeing of the whole person.
  • What is the age range?
    Pathways to Hope Programme and our courses are for those aged 16 and over.
  • What's Wellbeing Coaching?
    Wellbeing Coaching means that you will work one-on-one with your Coach, on the goals that you set together for your wellbeing. Coaching is future focussed and helps equip you so that you can remain in the "here & now" and be confident in making decisions & choices that are grounded in your personal values and your strengths. This is different to Counselling, which goes deeper to help you understand how negative experiences in your past may have shaped and impacted your wellbeing.
  • How regularly will I meet with my Wellbeing Coach
    After creating your Tailored Pathway with your Coach, together you will work out how often to have your coaching sessions. 12 Wellbeing Coaching Sessions are available to you. You can choose to meet in-person at our premises in Albany, Auckland or by video-call using an encrypted platform (such as Zoom). Wellbeing Coaching might be a mix of weekly, fortnightly, or monthly sessions. As your wellbeing strengthens your need for coaching sessions is likely to reduce.
  • Can I get Counselling?
    Yes, it's one of the support services which you and your Wellbeing Coach might identify to add to your tailored Pathway. Our counsellors are qualified, experienced and registered practitioners who are accountable to their Professional Governing Body and its Code of Ethics. If you are already in counselling then you might find it better to remain with your counsellor, the choice is yours.
  • What training do your staff have?
    Our staff are professionally trained and qualified in a variety of fields, relevant to their roles. Staff in front-facing therapeutic roles also undertake external Professional Supervision to ensure our practice is ethical and of a high standard to support participants well.
  • How 'unwell' do I need to be?
    A Girl Called Hope isn't a psychological service involved with diagnosis or treatment. Therefore, Pathways to Hope isn't suitable for those with complex mental health issues that are not currently being managed by another health professional. You don't need to be in a "really bad state" of unwellness to get help from A Girl Called Hope. If you are motivated to make changes in your life, please be in touch to find out what services best suit you.
  • I am already working with other professionals in the community, how will that work?
    That's great news! The Pathways to Hope programme does not take the place of any existing support or wrap-around-service that you may be engaged with. It's actually really helpful for you if we can collaborate with your existing team or professional/s who are supporting you. This way everyone's roles can be clarified to ensure there's no cross-over or confusion, especially for you. Any collaboration that takes place, and communication made, is with your full consent, knowledge and involvement.
  • What if I am unhappy about anything?
    Your voice is important, and we value you communicating with us about anything you are concerned about. We understand that sometimes raising a concern can feel uncomfortable, therefore we do have a complaints process which we will make sure that you are aware of when we start working together. Taking part in our programme is voluntary and you can withdraw at any time. A poroporoaki (an acknowledgement of your journey) is a part of our process when we finish working with anyone to ensure there is closure to our mahi.
  • How can we get the best from working together?
    An honest and open relationship between us ensures that you are receiving suitable support from our team to support your Wellbeing goals. Your feedback is very important throughout our mahi together. We understand that at times you may find things difficult as you work on your wellbeing goals, we are here to encourage you and help you along your journey of strengthening your wellbeing. Being open to change, willing to try new solutions, and being able to engage in reflection will result in you gaining the most from the programme.
  • How much does it cost?
    As a part of our commitment to reduce financial barriers for participants, we provide the Pathways to Hope programme on a donation basis. This is discussed with participants during the application process and does not impact acceptance to the programme.

    At A Girl Called Hope we recognise that our Pathways to Hope Programme is not suited to everyone, therefore we have listed some other organisations that you may find helpful.
